Portrait Drawing One Day 3-Hour Workshop by Cheryl Kelley | Thursday January 18th, 2024 | 1:00pm-4:00pm | for $80.00 + Tax |
The portrait drawing class will focus on the fundamentals of portraiture in pencil.
In this class you learn how to start a drawing, how to get all the parts of a face proportional, how to get a likeness, and how to render. We will also discuss the importance of keeping a sketchbook, and ideas to keep it interesting.
Cheryl’s teaching style is gentle and non intimidating. She seeks to build confidence in the inexperienced artist.
Materials to bring:
- Soft pencils like 7B, 8B or Ebony.
- Kneaded eraser
- Hand sharpener
- Sketchbook 5 x 8.5″ – Preferably by Moleskin
You are welcome to bring a full set of pencils but we will primarily be working in soft pencils.
If you prefer charcoal or ink, bring that too but still bring the other supplies.

Artist Bio:
Cheryl Kelley is an internationally recognized photorealist oil painter. She has worked with Bernaducci Meisel Gallery in NYC, is currently showing with Anthony Brunelli Fine Art in NY, as well as Tangent gallery in San Francisco. She is new to Santa Fe but has shown with Evoke Contemporary in the railyard. She is well known for her feminine, sensual and reflective paintings of classic cars. Her work has been featured in prominent publications such as the New York Times, the New York Sun, the Village Voice, Art News, American Art collector, New American Painting, and a host of other periodicals. Her work has been shown in museums and art fairs around the world. Her body of work of classic car paintings is monumental and she continues to be very prolific. Recently her focus has shifted to portraits and landscapes, and she hopes to make her presence known on the Santa Fe art scene. Over the years, Cheryl has taught private and classroom painting classes to children and adults. She enjoys creating confidence in her students.
